Asiatic Lily Bloom
Asiatic Lily on Display with Senior Center in Background.

General cleaning was the order of the day for Karen Reeves, Anita Engert and Sue Davis. Most of the beds were still quite tidy, so attention was drawn to the day lilies along the east side of the tax office. Most of the flowers were spent, leaving browned foliage to be removed. An hour’s worth of work completed the job.

As the morning heated up “work” turned into discussing ideas for changes that need to be addressed in the future. Some plants currently under the birch tree are in need of more light as the tree has thrived, so they will be moved to a sunnier location in the fall. The right plant in the right place. The new hydrangeas next to the senior center don’t seem very happy, but the gardeners weren’t sure if the location was the issue.

The irrigation system needs to be explored. None of those present know anything about the locations or kinds of emitters currently installed, and there is no longer a timer. At some point it needs to be hooked up to be inspected. As the summer gets hotter and drier water will become a serious issue. ~Sue Davis
