Berryville Library – September 2, 2020

The front gardens of the Berryville Public Library were the focus of our workday with Sue Davis, Anita Engert, and Jennifer Hudspeth on hand.

Ongoing discussions with the county regarding a small construction project precipitated the removal of a large knockout rose bush. Sue and Anita put the muscle to it and extracted the root ball of a rose.

The library is getting closer to starting their mural project. Some nandina will have to be removed for this project, and plans include benches and new low maintenance shrubs in front of the mural.

The back library garden was in good shape and needed minimal weeding. Berries on the American Beautyberry bush (Callicarpa americana) are turning a beautiful purple, and a few Monarch butterfly caterpillars were spotted on the Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepius tuberosa). ~Jennifer Hudspeth
