CCMG had a workday at Little Lake Eureka on Saturday, August 30 at 9am. We did some necessary weeding and removed some of the cleome plants to allow other plants, like the purple fountain grass, to show. Iris blades were cut back, ground cover was thinned, and we discussed the possibility of moving some of the peonies to a sunnier location in the garden since powdery mildew seems to affect the ones located in more shade. The datura (moonflower) was pruned back to allow the newly planted yellow fernleaf yarrow to receive more light. Division of the ornamental grasses in the garden was discussed and it was decided that February or March would work best.
Volunteers came on their own and maintained the garden beds between July 25 and August 30, since schedule conflicts resulted in the cancellation of the August 14 workday. Boxwoods were sheared, the grass perimeter was string trimmed, general weeding was done, and Melissa Sunshine kept up with watering!
The garden is really looking great! If you are nearby, please drive by and take a look!
