Anita Engert and Jennifer Hudspeth spent a recent workday in the library watering and pruning spent perennial foliage. Thanks to Kristy Noble, Lori Wilson Ball, and Jan Scheel for their supplemental watering of the garden between scheduled workdays. Jan Scheel The Hibiscus Althea (Rose of Sharon) is in its second year and has begun to produce several blooms. The Coral Drift roses, Lycoris Squamigera (Surprise Lily or Naked Lady), Echinacea (Coneflower), and Panicle Hydrangeas (Limelight and Bobo) are in bloom. The panicle and oak leaf hydrangeas are doing well despite the lack of rain, but the macrophylla hydrangeas are struggling. Unfortunately, there has been some vandalism in the garden and in the churchyard next door. The Surprise Lilies have all been knocked down or completely pulled out of the ground.
