‘Angelique’ double tulips in bloom

Nancy Plagge, Sue Davis, and Jennifer Hudspeth worked in the Berryville library garden. The spring bulbs have been spectacular this year, and visitors to the library and county offices have commented and enjoyed their beauty.

General spring garden maintenance was the focus of the workday and included staking the peony shrubs, weeding, and deadheading spent bulb blooms. Transplanting daylilies to the front of the county offices continued, and these will be a colorful addition in front of the nandina. These dwarf nandinas don’t flower and set blooms but have beautiful red foliage. They were severely damaged by our winter subzero temperatures and plans are to heavily prune at our next workday.

Plans for new shrubs in the birch tree bed were discussed. This area is a dry shade bed, and specific plants that will tolerate these conditions are being researched. Next workday is Wednesday, April 28 at 9am.
