Dwarf Crested Iris in Front Bed of Library
Dwarf Crested Iris in Front Bed of Library

Spring is popping up all over at the library. Master gardeners Regina Hooten, Karen Reeves, Nancy Plagge, Anita Engert, and Jennifer Hudspeth spent a beautiful morning working in the gardens at the Berryville Public Library. Plants in the garden are beginning to bud and the spring bulbs are showing some welcome color.

The crocus and a few daffodils are blooming, with hyacinth and tulip foliage not far behind. We are looking forward to the spring bulb show. Pruning and tidying up the flower beds were on the agenda. Beautyberry, Spirea, Knockout, and Drift roses all received a hard pruning, with some selective pruning on the Panicle Hydrangea, Oakleaf Hydrangea, and Liriope.

We also worked on cleaning the beds of spent perennial foliage, pulled a few darned winter weeds, and fertilized the blue atlas cedar and soft leaf hollies. Plans are to continue the every other week project workday schedule, and we look forward to some beautiful days in the garden.
