Anita Engert and Jennifer Hudspeth took advantage of spring bulb sales and mild January days to spend some time in the library garden. After planters were cleaned out and old foliage removed, a spring bulb mix was planted and topped off with mulch. Another impromptu workday resulted in removing the damaged and diseased japanese maple in front of the building. This was a sad task but needed to be done since the maple was slowly dying. A low maintenance evergreen shrub will be planted as a replacement at a later date.
After removing a few nandina suckers, adding and amending the soil, two bags of daffodil bulbs were planted around the remaining japanese maple. There are signs of spring all around the garden. The ‘ivory prince’ hellebores are beautiful and putting out buds.
