Our guest speaker at the February 2019 monthly membership meeting was Tom Krohn, Arkansas Regional Coordinator for Frog Watch USA, a nationwide citizen science program that monitors frogs and toads. He has established five Arkansas Chapters and has trained over 2000 frog listening enthusiasts. He is the president of the non-profit Saving Nature Now, a certified Arkansas Master Naturalist, and the National Coordinator for the Saving Nature Now – Green Team program which empowers kids and families to take actions that directly help nature and encourage sustainable living.
Tom spoke on the benefits of garden frogs and toads, how to attract them, and support their activities and habitat. These amphibians sure do eat a lot of insects and are interwoven into the ecosystem of the plants, insects, soil-dwellers, and birds that share your garden with you. Attendees created a frog call choir (perhaps not as well as the recording below) and Tom shared take-home resources for us, plus these sites for more information.
