It was a beautiful day to be volunteering at Little Lake Eureka on October 9. Linda Rogers and Jennifer Boardman attended. We discussed the design of the garden and assessed which plants were performing well there. The smaller Rose of Sharon was removed because it was not performing well and we discovered that the soil depth was very shallow where it was planted. This may have been the reason it did not thrive where it was planted. The perimeter of the garden was string trimmed, some of the spent cleome plants were thinned, the leaf blower was used to clear the walkways, and the garden was weeded. We are continuing to relabel the new plant tags with UV resistant labels. The next regularly scheduled workday is Oct. 23. All Master Gardeners are invited to earn sanctioned work hours at this garden. A neighbor to this garden stopped by and thanked us for beautifying this historic area of Eureka Springs.
