A workday was held at Little Lake Eureka on Thursday, May 8. Kim Yonkee, Linda Rogers, and Jennifer Boardman volunteered to work on the garden. Immediately, we noticed that many of our plants had been browsed by deer, most likely.
A few days earlier, we had beautiful, dark blue irises in bloom, and today, only very few blossoms remained. Many of the perennials had been pruned. The peonies are full of beautiful blooms this year, though, and the deer are leaving them alone. Photos of the irises in bloom were taken two days before the workday.
We used the potash fertilizer on the garden this time and decided to divide Monty’s recommended amount into two applications: one today and then again in two months. The fertilizer was scattered throughout the garden beds and then watered in. Eureka Springs Public Works had delivered some rock to fill in the erosion around the garden bed, and a helpful volunteer filled in the troubled areas for us.
